A Century of Development
Founded in 1909, by Thomas McInerney; then a small house building operation. Today, McInerney is the biggest international construction company based in Ireland.
McInerney expanded into the UK market in the '50s, ostensibly working in the South of England. It pioneered the timber framing housing technique and developed joint venture housing concepts with housing associations in the UK.
By the late 1960s, in Ireland it became the first volume builder in the housing market, with involvement in a number of commercial projects.
In 1971 the company went public. At the time it was the largest public flotation in Ireland; 11 times over subscribed.
McInerney Properties was formed and Amby McInerney (son of Thomas McInerney) was appointed Chairman.
Overseas Investment
In the '70s the company looked to new markets and specifically the buoyant Middle East. By 1980, it was operating successfully in five Gulf countries with a diverse range of projects - employing over 2,000 people.
That decade saw Iberia and the leisure market become a focus for the company. It established a base in both Spain and Portugal and developed a number of exclusive country club resorts in Portugal and Marbella.
In 1987, Amby McInerney retired as Chairman of the company and Daniel McInerney took over.
Looking Forward to the 21st Century
In 1989 the company was restructured and McInerney Holdings Plc. - as it is now known - was formed.
Today, the McInerney Group is one of Ireland's leading construction companies, with divisions specialising in various aspects of the market. It has operations in Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom. In the business for over 90 years, the McInerney name is synonymous with good quality homes and construction.
